President Leonel Fernandez sent a letter to pitcher Pedro Martinez congratulating him on the distinction to be made in the United States. The three-time Cy Young Award winner will receive an honor reserved for presidents and great figures who have shaped the history of the United States: a portrait in the National Museum of American History. In the portrait, an oil painting 57 x 21 inches by the artist in 2000, Martínez shown rubbing a ball on the mound to throw in the uniform of the Boston Red Sox and a small flag of the Republic Dominican right shoulder.
In the letter sent on Thursday, Fernandez reiterated his congratulations and wishes to record that the star of baseball gets another tribute to his outstanding work product in the majors. "A tribute no doubt that pride to the Dominicans, which honors his name and the Dominican Republic," says the Dominican ruler.
