HUNOSA, THE MINING ECOLOGY.
few months ago leaving a budget of 5 million euros for the reforestation plan of former mining land in the municipalities of Langreo, San Martín del Rey Aurelio, Mieres and Aller. In the former open pit mines: The Braña'l Ríu, La Matona, Mozquita, L'Abeduriu, San Víctor, El Cantil and Coto Bello. Cover 3,000 hectares, planted 1.2 million trees.
The plan started with an investment of 394,853 euros in the old mines of the Braña'l Ríu, the project began with the reforestation of 50 hectares of the 138 that occupies the old farm, by the Tragsa company contracted by Hunosa. Planted five different plant species: Pinus pinaster, birch, alder, holly and laurel, which are less demanding and thus suitable for this type of terrain.
These actions will help to restore land damaged by mining, but also will have other environmental effects, as well as the elimination of 31,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, the gas that contributes to greenhouse gases in the atmosphere within 15 to 20 years. Also covers use wind energy by a wind farm, but for now are only theories.
Yesterday I approached the old workings of the Braña'l Ríu to browse that and take some pictures, I put below.
